Usage & Grammar Test

The school's usage and grammar test is designed to evaluate word usage, grammar and punctuation competencies based on AP Style. It is a timed 50-minute test given electronically through Sakai that consists of 60 usage, 30 grammar and 10 punctuation multiple-choice questions. Allow about one hour in your schedule for this test.

Graduation Requirement

MJ-school majors are required to score 70 percent or better on the test prior to graduation. All MEJO 153 students will take the test once in class. MJ-school minors are not required to score 70 percent or better.

Consider this test seriously. It is a degree requirement just as is any required course. It is offered 12–14 times throughout each fall and spring semester, once each summer session and there is no limit or penalty for how many times the test is taken. Seats are limited and, as the end of the semester approaches, availability can be extremely competitive. Make every effort to fulfill this obligation prior to leaving campus. Your degree is NOT awarded until you complete all requirements.
